⚡ x402-gateway-template - Simple Crypto Payment Gateway

Download

🔎 What is x402-gateway-template?

x402-gateway-template lets you accept crypto payments on your API without complicated setups. It works as a self-hosted payment gateway. You can accept payments in USDC stablecoins using the x402 protocol. This lets your users pay per request, with no API keys or subscriptions.

You don’t need to connect wallets or create payment pages. The system uses simple HTTP headers to handle payments. It supports many blockchain networks such as Ethereum, Polygon, Avalanche, and others.

This guide walks you through downloading and running the software on your Windows computer. You do not need programming knowledge.

🚀 Getting Started

This section explains what you need before installing the software.

System Requirements

  • Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
  • At least 4GB of RAM
  • 500 MB free disk space
  • Internet connection
  • Basic knowledge of using Windows applications

What You Will Get

  • The payment gateway program you can run on your PC
  • Instructions to connect it to your backend system
  • Support for multiple blockchain networks for USDC payments

💾 Download and Install

To get started, visit this page to download the latest package:

Download x402-gateway-template

Steps to download and install:

  1. Click the link above. It will open the project's GitHub page.
  2. Look for a section called “Releases” or check the main page for any download buttons.
  3. Download the latest Windows installer or zipped package.
  4. If you downloaded a zipped file, right-click and choose “Extract All” to a folder of your choice.
  5. Open the extracted folder and find the main executable file named something like x402-gateway-template.exe.
  6. Double-click the executable file to start the program.

After starting for the first time, the software will guide you through basic setup.

🔧 Setting Up the Gateway

Once installed, you must configure the gateway to work with your backend. Follow these simplified steps:

  1. Open the program window on your PC.
  2. In the settings, enter the address of your backend API server. This is where the gateway will forward requests after payment.
  3. Choose which blockchain networks you want to accept USDC payments from. The software supports multiple chains.
  4. Save your settings.
  5. Start the gateway service by clicking the “Start” button.

The gateway will now listen for incoming API calls and handle micropayment flow automatically.

📋 How Payment Works

The x402-gateway-template uses an HTTP status code 402 Payment Required. This code lets the server tell the client to pay before continuing.

The process:

  1. Your client tries to use your API.
  2. The gateway blocks the call and responds with a 402 Payment Required. It includes who to pay, how much, and what token.
  3. The client signs a payment using the USDC stablecoin.
  4. Client sends the request again, attaching proof of payment.
  5. The gateway verifies the signed payment and settles it on the blockchain.
  6. The gateway passes the client’s request to your backend and returns the response along with a payment receipt.

This process happens in the background with no extra web pages or wallet pop-ups.

🔄 Running the Gateway Every Time

  1. Open the folder where you installed the software.
  2. Double-click the program to open it.
  3. Click the “Start” button to run the gateway.
  4. To stop the gateway, click “Stop” or close the program window.

You need to keep the program running while your API accepts payments.

⚙️ Configuration Details

  • API Backend URL: Where your API lives. Example: http://localhost:8080.
  • Accepted Tokens: Choose USDC on supported chains.
  • Supported Chains: Base, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Unichain, Linea, Sonic, Hyper.
  • Network Fee Settings: Usually preconfigured but can be adjusted.
  • Logging: The software keeps records of payments and requests for auditing.

All these settings live in the program’s settings panel. Change them any time before starting the gateway.

🛠 Troubleshooting Tips

  • The gateway does not start: Make sure no other program uses the same port (default 8080). Restart your PC and try again.
  • Payments fail: Check if your backend URL is correctly set and reachable.
  • No response from backend: Confirm your API server is running and accessible.
  • Chain network errors: Verify your internet connection and the blockchain networks you selected.
  • Program crashes: Run as administrator or check for antivirus interference.
